So you have started a home business? Or perhaps you are put off not knowing how to advertise any potential home business you start? It is true that some marketing tools can be expensive but this doesn’t always have to be the case; at least, not from the very start. In truth, there are a number of things you can do right at the very start of your business to increase interest and build some brand recognition.
Free Ads – Although it may not reach the widest audience in the world and it may not be targeted, there are some websites and newspapers that offer free ads so whenever the opportunity arises, no harm can come from submitting an ad. Even if this only results in one or two new clients, it has done its job considering it was free. You never know, these could be the customers that save you right at the beginning.
Free Press – If you achieve a major accomplishment, attended a local event, or do anything else that is worth noting, submit an article to the local newspaper or any news websites as this is a great way for people to read about your business. As long as you keep the article short, include a picture, and mention your home business, you should get a good number of readers and again, this can easily translate into customers/clients.
Contact Other Home Businesses – It is always good to remember that you are not the only home business in your market so instead of seeing this as a disadvantage, try and find the positives. One positive that can come of this is working together and joining up for a project or a particular event that is coming up on the calendar. It is important to note that you shouldn’t choose someone who is in direct competition with you because then you will be forcing customers to make a decision but instead, find a business that will complement yours and vice versa. With a small amount of research, you will easily find companies that will work well with yours and if you decide to work together, you could both see the benefit. There are many companies in the past that started as two separate entities but grew together and there is no reason why you cannot do the same thing.
These are just three simple tips that you can use to market your business but there are a lot more, you just have to use your mind and make the most of what is around you. Try to find a way to utilise the internet, newspapers, word-of-mouth, local noticeboards, and the rest. Advertising really doesn’t have to mean a TV advert and a billboard, start small and you will soon see the rewards!
